Hello, South Africa.
NIKON D700 and no lens info shooting f/5.6, 425 s, ISO 200 at 62 mm. Taken at 2009:06:18 21:08:49
NOTE!! This is a cross-post from I Am In Africa (dot com). All content (by me) on that blog will be identical to the posts you find here. There’s no need to RSS both. I figure if you’re already subscribed to this one, I don’t want to make you subscribe to both. This blog will have more personal accounts than I Am In Africa anyway so stick around.
This is a picture of Table Mountain from the private garden of my apartment.(1) Cape Town is gorgeous. Seriously. Gorgeous.
So here’s the deal: My interwebs here is spotty at best so I’ve set up a new post to show up at this blog with a photo and short snippet every night for the next week (at 12am SAST). That should keep most of the people who wanted to see photos happy. And if that works out, I’ll just keep doing that.
For now, let’s just say it doesn’t even feel like Africa yet. I came out of the airport expecting Uganda–monkeys on the parking lot, vans full of guys carrying guns, shady little bathrooms in the airport. Instead, I got a super modern airport (probably better than SAN), a really friendly Indian driver and I met a bunch of white people with various European accents. Suffice it to say, if you stay in the central part of Cape Town, you’ll be relatively safe and treated well.
More tomorrow. Until then, here is an outtake from the same shoot.
Footnotes:- It’s a 400+ second long exposure if you’re interested in that kind of thing… [↩]

Nice star trails man. Take care out there and I look forward to seeing more pics soon.
