Jiggle the goodness…

Jiggle Jiggle.

Actually, yes, I did jello my camera.

This is actually the second time I jello-ed it. The first time, the jello was too soft. Here’s what I learned:

  1. A camera filled with jello is much much heavier than a stapler. Don’t follow The Office recipe for jello.
  2. I used 4 packs of Knox’s Gelatine (the clear stuff), and 9 packs of orange, sugarless jello. Even then, it barely held up.
  3. It takes a long time. I made the whole batch, then added a small layer and chilled that for 4.5 hours. While I was doing that, I was continuously stirring the batch to prevent it from settling. THEN, I placed the camera in and started to slowly add the other stuff. You absolutely have to wait 4.5 hours. The first time I only waited 3 and it was a disaster.
  4. This is messy. Looks like I’ll be spending the better half of tomorrow morning cleaning out the fridge.
  5. I was under the impression that sugarless jello wouldn’t be as sticky and that’s why I bought it. I was wrong.
  6. My camera now smells like jello, even after I boiled it for 5 minutes (yes, literally) and left it in a bucket of hot water for 30 minutes. I’ll have to try again tomorrow.
  7. You won’t have much time to shoot. This guy started falling apart about 30 seconds into it. I really didn’t get much shooting time at all. A smarter person would have used a small kiddie pool or a large bathtub–I am not and it started melting onto my kitchen floor.
  8. A zoom lens really could have come in handy for this one.

It could have been better, but it was fun. You live, you learn, and then you never do it again and just show others how to do it right.
