Asian Male Seeks Female Rock Vocalist.

It’s not a secret that I have a thing for girls who can sing and play instruments.

Preferably both but hey — not that picky. I don’t mean just random girls or one of my talented friends, she has to be a rock star and at least semi-famous but she does not have to be at all physically attractive and I don’t have to know anything about her as a person. All I need to know is that she has a great voice and plays something and that’s plus 8 points. And 8 points is pretty high on my scale.(1)Take, for example, Amy Millan of Stars.(2) I saw her in concert tonight(3) and I was expecting a relatively young, thin, attractive female and instead found a 35 year old, out of shape mom.(4) Still, that didn’t stop me from loving her. Her voice is better live than on record and she plays guitar. And she’s Canadian, eh?

Or Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley fame. I mean, Jenny Lewis isn’t bad looking by any measure but she’s no stunner. She’s also 32 and was the female lead in the ever classic film, The Wizard. She’s stylish, but I’m superficial and I’ll be the first to admit I wouldn’t look twice at her if we passed each other on the street. Still… How do you not fall in love with a voice like that?

Then there’s Sara Watkins(5) of Nickel Creek fame. Again, no stunner but I almost proposed to her on the spot when I saw her perform at the B&N in downtown San Diego. Lucky for her there was a line.

All of them people I’d never consider physically attractive outside of their rock star context but think I may be highly infatuated with right now…
